18-year-old actress, Abigail Breslin has been acting almost as long as she’s been alive.  She made her on-screen debut in a Toys-R-Us commercial when she was just three years old, and her acting debut came shortly after with a role in M. Night Shyamalan science fiction film, Signs. In the movie, Breslin played the on-screen daughter of Mel Gibson’s character, Graham Hess.  Her performance received praise from critics, and in the early 2000s alone she went on to appear in four other films including Raising Helen and Keane. Her breakout, and most memorable, role came in the 2006 film, Little Miss Sunshine, in which she stared as Olive Hoover, the young girl who embarks on a road trip with her dysfunctional family after she learns that she has qualified for the “Little Miss Sunshine” beauty pageant.  The film received generally positive reviews; however, Breslin’s performance was singled out as being one of the strongest in the film.  Claudia Puig of USA Today even said, “If Olive had been played by any other little girl, she would not have affected us as mightily as it did.”

In 2009, Breslin landed another extremely memorable and moving role in the film, My Sister’s Keeper.  Breslin’s character, Anna Fitzgerald, was conceived by her parents in order to donate blood, organs, and tissue to her cancer stricken sister.  The film follows Anna’s struggle to balance her love for her sister with her own rights as a human being.  Her performance in the film earned her the 2010 Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a Feature Film-Leading Young Actress.” Since My Sister’s Keeper, Breslin has appeared in several films and has also taken her skills to the stage. She made her debut appearance on Broadway in the 2010 production of The Miracle Worker in which she played the legendary Helen Keller.

However, even with a resume that rivals some stars who are twice her age, Breslin’s true fans know that her talents are not just limited to acting. For quite a while now, Breslin has been very involved in keeping up a Tumblr blog which she calls “mixtapes and wintercoats.”  Breslin’s page, which offers advice on love and life, has received praise from her followers who look to the young star for advice and enjoy reading her posts. Although she is barely old enough to be considered an adult, Breslin has an interesting way of seeing the world and appears to be wise beyond her years.  Here is some of Abigail Breslin’s best advice on life and love.

5. “No Proof, One Touch, But You Felt Enough”

Dealing with a number of various feelings, Breslin talks about the joys and pains of falling in an out of love.  Even at just 18-years-old, Breslin seems to understand that all of the people who enter our lives are there for a specific purpose, and that purpose may not be to stick around forever.  However, she promises her readers that they will eventually find an ideal partner who will be around for the long haul.  She addresses her readers directly and says that this person will “love you because you are awkward and weird and you watch christmas movies year round and drink coffee at 1 am and trip all the time and wear baggy clothes to sleep and cry over fictional characters in books and movies and love watching zit popping videos and you spend most of your time on the internet and you hate waking up early and you constantly complain about everything.”

4. “Someway Baby it’s Part of Me, Apart From Me”

Breslin opens this post with the interesting line: “The most terrible thing in the world, is the past.”  She explains to readers that living in the past, can be problematic because “it haunts you and eats away at you. you spend so much of your time trying to get back to it, back to the way things used to be. the way things could be, should be.”  She urges her fans to become comfortable with the idea that mistakes are a part of life, and she also points out that “just because a relationship isn’t the same as it was before, does not make it any less important or special then it was.” Although she opens her post by saying how terrible the past is, she closes it by saying that it’s something we must deal with, because at the end of the day, the past is what has molded us into our present selves.

3. Game

Love and life are the two of the biggest games any of us will ever play.  In love, we often play games with each other’s feelings , and in everyday life, we often play games to get what we want.  In this post, Breslin lays out several scenarios in which people are likely to play games and poses the questions: “when did caring about someone become such an awful, terrible thing?” and “when did those feelings become bad things?” She notes that people are often unable to connect with each other which can lead to unhealthy romantic relationships. Her last bit of advice, a 21st century take on the old idea “when you find somebody good…,” says simply: “once you find someone who wants to kiss you on line at starbucks. don’t. let. them. go”

2. Forehead

While many young stars are out ruining their reputations, Breslin is dissecting the level of intimacy in giving forehead kisses. She argues that a kiss on the forehead is much more special than merely “shoving your tongue down someones throat.” Interestingly,  Breslin also suggests that for head kisses are essentially selfless because they are strictly for the receiver’s benefit, and perhaps these small selfless acts are the true indicators of love.

1. L O V Enough Already

Breslin encourages people to be bold and express their love for one another no matter what.  She says,  “if you love someone tell them no matter what no matter what time it is even if its 2 in the afternoon and you’re just drinking coffee with someone and the way they laugh is somewhat contagious because the sound of it kind of catches in the back of their throat and their neck goes backwards, and it looks ridiculous and not cute or sexy like the laughs we see in movies. those are actor laughs, trust me, i know.”
