From Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida, Nembhard was recruited to the University of Florida. He made every start for the Gators during his rookie season and recorded the fourth-most assists by a freshman in school history.

Nembhard was selected for the conference All-Freshman team after averaging 8.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists and placing seventh in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in assist-turnover ratio. A few days later, Nembhard defeated Louisiana State University (LSU) in the 2019 SEC tournament with a buzzer-beater.

Nembhard opted to stay with the Gators for his sophomore season despite having declared for the 2019 NBA draft. As a sophomore, Nembhard topped the SEC with a 2.2 assist-to-turnover ratio while averaging 11.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.

He declared for the 2020 NBA draft after the season, but he also signed an NCAA-certified representation, giving him the choice to stay in Florida. On May 30, 2020, Nembhard accessed the NCAA transfer portal and withdrew from the draft.

Nembhard announced his transfer to Gonzaga on June 23, 2020. Over offers from Duke, USC, Memphis, Georgetown, and Stanford, he decided on the Bulldogs. On November 24th, he received a waiver for immediate eligibility.

He mostly played off the bench for a Gonzaga team that went into its conference tournament undefeated while playing more minutes per game than two Bulldogs starters. He averaged 9.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game.

Nembhard was selected to the all-conference second team and was named the first-ever sixth man of the year for the West Coast Conference. As a senior, he contributed 11.8 points, 5.8 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.6 steals each game.

Nembhard was selected for the WCC First Team. Nembhard sent notice to enter the 2022 NBA draft on April 21, giving up his remaining college eligibility. The Indiana Pacers chose Nembhard with the 31st overall choice. Nembhard joined the 2022 NBA Summer League roster for the Pacers.

Nembhard beat the Charlotte Hornets 96-84 in his Summer League debut, recording five points, five rebounds, and five assists. The Pacers offered Nembhard the highest rookie contract ever for a second-round pick on July 22, 2022, a four-year, $8.6M deal.

On November 28, Nembhard hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers 116-115. Nembhard had a career-high 31 points, 13 assists, 8 rebounds, and 5 three-pointers on December 5 in a victory over the Golden State Warriors when Tyrese Haliburton was out with an injury.

Nembhard competed for Canada at the U-16, U-17, and U-18 levels in FIBA competition. He was selected to the senior national squad in 2019 for the FIBA World Cup.

Ryan was also born in Aurora, Ontario, in Canada. He played four games for Canada’s U23 team at GLOBL Jam, helping the hosts to two wins.
