Emmitt Smith studied at Escambia High School, a high school located in Escambia County, Florida. There, he played high school football and ran track for the Escambia Gators.

He then attended the University of Florida in Gainesville on an athletic scholarship and went on to play for the Gators for three seasons (1987–1989).
