Knox is capturing the attention of music fans all over the world with his witty lyrics and stunning vocals. The up-and-coming singer-songwriter has already released several smash hits, including “Sneakers” and “Not The 1975,” but his discography is much more impressive than just a few successful tracks. Although Knox has yet to release a full-length project, he’s already established a powerful fanbase and recently wrapped up his first headlining tour. The “Love Letter” singer is still humbly letting his rise in popularity set in as he gears up to release new music. In an exclusive interview with CelebMix, Knox opens up about his latest single “Change Your Mind,” touring, and more.

What can you tell us about your brand new single “Change Your Mind” and the inspiration behind it?

I think people like Noah Kahan, Zach Bryan and Hozier are making songwriting cool again. “Change Your Mind” was my attempt at taking a swing at something like that. I wanted to make something that kind of had a folk feel to it, but was really focused on the actual songwriting and storytelling. I made a couple of songs like that and “Change Your Mind” was my favorite.

Fans are absolutely loving the music video for “Change Your Mind.” Can you share anything about the creative process that went into bringing this visual to life?

I wanted to shoot something that was inspired by Wes Anderson’s movies, with the colors and how everything just really popped. That’s why we went with the pink flowers and everything. It was my first real music video. We wanted to tell the whole story of “Change Your Mind,” but also be super aesthetically pleasing with all of the colors and the shots we chose.

You’ve released a few singles this year! Can fans look forward to an EP or album in the near future?

Yeah, I’m making an album! We’re going to do a lot of singles first, but I’m making my full blown debut project. It’s going to be awesome! But for now, we’re just going to keep putting out singles before we get into that. We still have a while before the album, but there is a ton of music still coming so nobody has to worry about that!

We know you just wrapped up a sold-out headlining tour! What was it like to perform live for your fans and meet so many of them?

Honestly, it was cool to go to all of these different cities and see people who are coming to see you. It’s different when you’re the opener and you’re playing shows and the challenge is to win people over. Whereas when you do a headline tour, you kind of already won them over. It’s cool to see how many people are excited to see you in their cities. When you play a show and you see them singing the words to a song that you wrote with your best friends in your bedroom – it’s a really unreal feeling that I’m not sure I’m ever going to get used to. It was awesome and so cool to meet everyone and thank them in person. The people that listen to my music are the reason why I have the coolest job in the world!

Were there any shows in particular that stood out to you?

I would say Atlanta, Salt Lake City and LA stand out to me the most. Atlanta was really crazy. I’ve played Atlanta a bunch of times, but this was the biggest headline show we’ve ever done – so that was really cool. Salt Lake City was wild. It’s always crazy for some reason.

I’ve been to a lot of shows in LA and even though it was my show, I think it was the rowdiest one. LA shows can be tough to get people involved and I thought it was amazing. I had multiple friends say it was the best show they’ve seen in LA and they’re artists too, so it was cool to hear that.

Now that this tour has wrapped, where has your focus shifted? Do you plan on doing more work in the studio or taking a bit of a break?

I’m definitely not taking a break! I’m going to go into the studio soon to do some sessions. We just wrapped up touring but we’ll be back on the road super soon. We’re pretty much doing shows all year and I can’t wait to tell people more about that very soon.

Fans are looking forward to seeing you perform at Lollapalooza this summer! Are you excited to perform and what can fans attending expect?

They can expect the greatest 1:30pm show they’ve ever seen at Lollapalooza – it’s gonna be sick! We’re playing all of the fun songs and some new stuff. It’s crazy because I went as a fan last year, so it’s wild that not only am I playing it, but I get to be on the main stage which is pretty wild. You should get there early because it’s going to be fun!

Finally, what do you want new fans who are just discovering your music to know about you as both an artist and person?

There is something for everybody, no matter what genre you like, in the songs I have released and the ones I have coming – and I’m not stopping anytime soon. I’m going to keep putting out more music, and I feel like it’s only getting better and better every time. You should stick around – it’s going to be epic!
