JOURNALIST and author Jamila Rizvi has announced she is currently battling a brain tumour.

The 31-year-old columnist who writes for news.com.au and worked as the editor-in-chief of Mamamia, took to Instagram on Monday afternoon to make the announcement.

“You’re not supposed to Google your symptoms because the internet says everything is either stomach cancer or a brain tumour,” she wrote.

“Turns out, sometimes Google gets it right.”

Jamila, who worked in politics as an advisor to the Rudd and Gillard governments, wrote that the tumour is “benign and operable” and said she will undergo surgery to have it removed early next year.

She said she is “not in any pain” and plans to continue “writing, speaking and working as normal”.

Jamila lives in Melbourne with her husband Jeremy and toddler Rafi. She published a book about successful women titled Not Just Lucky earlier this year.
