There are still SO MANY interesting pieces of information coming out of the Sony Hack. I mean, nothing beats Scott Rudin’s hissy fit about Angelina Jolie, obviously. But there’s still lots of interesting stuff. So, in the interest of brevity, let’s just do some highlights. Am I the only one who doesn’t care at all about the Sony Hack reveal of the new James Bond film, Spectre? Sony is worried that the budget will bloat up to $300 million and the studio hates the ending – go here to read. And The Daily Beast did two lengthy write-ups of some new info from the Sony Hack – go here and here to read. Some interesting stories:
*Scott Rudin and Angelina Jolie were emailing about David Fincher and Jolie remarked that Fincher “may be difficult but is brilliant” and Rudin replied “‘May be difficult’?!?! Like Hitler ‘may be anti-Semitic’!!!”
*Lots of legal drama over Ghostbusters. Bill Murray & Sony are in the midst of some legal wrangling about the Ghostbusters film. As for the all-female cast, Sony wants Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone and Melissa McCarthy, and maybe Amy Schumer and Lizzy Kaplan.
*Brad Pitt’s email alias involves “—- Phizz” and he signs his emails B P McWee.
*Sony honchos don’t want to make an Edward Snowden bio-pic now that Oliver Stone is making another one.
*Spike Lee is making an update to School Daze and apparently Drake is going to star in it. With that old whore Kevin Hart.
*Aaron Sorkin is broke and possibly sleeping with a coworker, or at least that’s what Amy Pascal tells her colleagues.
*No one wants to go to Steven Spielberg’s Democratic fundraisers anymore. Everybody is tapped out because Spielberg hits them up for contributions all the time.
*Amy Pascal is super-cozy with Ryan Gosling’s talent manager Ilene Feldman. Feldman tells Pascal that Gosling “absolutely loved you” and that he really wants to do Ghostbusters… with Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone.
*Pascal sort of wanted Gosling for the Steve Jobs bio-pic.
*Pascal was disgusted by the way Leonardo DiCaprio suddenly dropped his interest in the Steve Jobs film. Another executive emails Pascal about Leo’s “horrible behavior” when Leo simply “changed his mind” about the film, and Pascal emails back, “Actually despicable.”
*Everybody hates Jaden and Willow Smith. Tim Rothman (the head of TriStar) forwarded Pascal the NYT interview with Jaden and Willow with the message “1. Read this. 2. they r home schooled: don’t let this family date your movies!!!”
*Channing Tatum’s emails are pretty much what you would expect – after the box office report came out for 22 Jump Street and they realized how much money the film made, Channing sent a victory email to Pascal, Jonah Hill and other executives – go here to see.
And here’s a final story: George Clooney emailed Pascal just before The Monuments Men was released in theaters. The email dates to January 29, 2014, because TMM had already been pushed back from its late-2013 release. Because the film wasn’t actually very good at all, and George was in post-production for a while trying to save it. And George was really worried about the reviews, so he emailed Pascal with the subject heading “it’s getting worse.” He wrote: “I need some protection from all the reviews. Let’s just make it a hit. I haven’t slept in 30 hours. And it’s 7 am.” Pascal wrote back: “we will protect you by making money… that’s the best revenge.” The next day, George wrote her back: “I adore you Amy. You are literally the only person running a studio that loves film. I fear I’ve let you all down. Not my intention. I apologize. I’ve just lost touch… Who knew? Sorry. I won’t do it again.” Aw. That one is kind of nice.
